“I don’t know what I’d do without our volunteers,” says Meredith David, Recreational Activities Officer at St Joseph’s Aged Care, Coffs Harbour. “They are so important.”
There are many ways in which people volunteer at Catholic Healthcare. Some assist with fundraising, others are involved in preparing and serving food, some provide support and companionship, others assist with recreational activities, home visitation, taking an elderly and isolated person on an outing, or with administrative duties. The time and range of activities is enormous.
“Our volunteers enjoy coming here,” Meredith says. “They enjoy making the residents’ lives just that bit better and they enjoy the camaraderie with the staff. I would say it is a win-win situation.”
Heather Graham is a volunteer at St Joseph’s, Coffs Harbour. Heather says volunteering is a very rewarding thing to do, “It’s been a part of my life for 16 years. I get so much out of it.”
Some people worry that they will not have the time to volunteer.
Volunteering at Catholic Healthcare is very flexible: some can only give 1 hour but if 20 people gave an hour, there would be 20 hours of volunteering.
Do you have 1 hour to improve the life of a person in need?
